BFFERBOO

Good Monday Morning, friends! Do you guys ever find yourself adopting the styles of the people that you spend the most time with? This is happening a lot with my fashion love, Katrina, and after spending the weekend with Kasey, I'm craving pretty A-lines and sweet silhouettes. Kasey has always been excellent at understanding her body shape and what looks best on her frame. It's this same eye that allows her to solidly deliver figure flattering outfit photos for me in under 5 minutes flat! She's also super smart about using this knowledge to her advantage when making decisions about morning outfit choices and clothing purchases. Count on Kasey to spot the one dress that has the perfect band that will highlight your natural waist and frame your swoon worthy body! She also applies this when she gets ready in the morning. She's able to make quick decisions by having go-to combos. Example: Boots + leggings + shift + vest. Or in this post, A-line + cardigan + flats!

I adore both of these looks. They're different enough that Kasey can rock them in the same week and it doesn't seem like she's wearing the same thing. This pretty yellow number is one that we picked up in Austin at one of the many vintage boutiques in South Congress. This mint dress is from Lindy Bop, a modern day, UK-based company that produces high quality 50's style dresses at unbeatable prices. Link to the exact dress on Amazon here. I've been phantom carting the floral version for the past several weeks. I just seriously need to pull the trigger. Ever since my Holiday Housewife look, I find myself wanting to commit to these type of dresses even more.

I also need to give Kasey a shout out for being an amazing friend, especially today. There are so many incredible benefits to having a best friend who is a kick ass lady engineer. And because we work at the same company, I get to take full advantage of her amazingness and parade her around my schools. We were in Durham this weekend to present to the girls of HackDuke. Kasey captivated the audience with her passion for using tech to pursue her philanthropic endeavors. Her most recent one being Hello World University. Kasey and I have done quite a bit of travelling together and we're pretty good getting ish done. We enjoyed a dinner and movie date night and were planning to visit the Lemurs, but alas, Delta had different plans for us. Long story short, due to a whole bunch of FUBAR happenings, one after another, Kasey ended up being stranded in Baltimore. Delta had sent us both confirmations for our BWI > SEA flight, but only I had been issued a ticket.

You want to know what true love is? Without discussing it beforehand, I knew I was going to get on that flight because I knew Kasey wasn't going to expect me to stay with her. She was happy that at least one of us was going to make it home that night. Not gonna lie, we were both desperately trying to return home to get some quality time in with the boyfriends before the work week started. And she sent me off with a chipper "Enjoy your time with Mitch!" Like seriously, when you find friends that for reals want you to be happy and do everything in their power to help you be happy, you hold on to that shit like your life depends on it. I've learned many lessons in kindness and how to be a good friend from Kasey. I will admit, I have had some serious BFF fail moments in this past year but I am so grateful for Kasey's unconditional love and thankful to be experiencing life with such a beautiful soul. Okay, sorry not sorry for getting kind of mushy there. Until Wednesday, my friends!

The Red Dress

IMG_2672

I'm honestly not sure how to start off this post. My veins are still buzzing with creative energy from shooting with Katrina earlier today. These photos were shot this morning, in a chill, PNW mist. Kat had this clear vision for a lady dressed in red surrounded by the deep green forest, adorned in metallics and gold. I would say we pulled it off with flying colors! It is incredible what two people can achieve when they play off each other's creative strengths. I've never experienced a partnership like this before in my photography and styling and I don't think I'll ever be able to work in any other way ever again.

You've seen Meta Ink featured on my blog before, but never like this! Katrina had the brilliant idea of using lines of dots to make a trail along her spine. It seriously took me less than 5 minutes to apply the tats and the result is INCREDIBLE. I love how unique and delicate these dots are as an accessory. It was a bit challenging for me to envision flash tats for Fall season since most of the imaging and marketing is very much geared towards a summer coachella beach lifestyle. But I love Kat's idea and we were inspired to shoot a few more Fall Meta Ink looks. Watch out for those posts later this month! So, flash tats for a surprise accessory in the back, but what about the front? I know you were checking out that gorgeous necklace that Kat has on. You can catch the lovely Mila necklace from Victoria Bekerman on their website here. Their pieces are a beautiful mix of modern design with vintage materials. The type of jewelry that you invest in for it's timeless qualities. And of course, if you're looking for the dress, scoop it on Lulu's site before it's gone! I'm seriously thinking about picking it up in both colors!

No joke, I've been running through this album set on repeat and I can't stop looking at this photo set. These are my favorite photos that I have ever taken to date. I think today marks a turning point in my blog world. Meeting Katrina has changed my view and understanding of fashion blogging. My outfit photos have improved by ten fold and I always feel extra style inspired each time I get ready for one of our meet-ups. But for reals, after collaborating on a project like this and feeling the rush of partnering with such a creative human being, there's no turning back. Exciting things are ahead for us and I can't wait to share them all! Thank you for reading, I appreciate all of your love and support and can't thank you enough for believing in my little blog.

Blonde Brigade

Kasey is responsible for more than half of my outfit shots. She has put up with my silly photo requests since day 1 of this blog and I couldn't be more grateful. She has an eye for detail and always makes sure I don't look like a crazy person in photos. It's actually kind of difficult to take good photos! I think Kasey's style is pretty fly and on occasion, I'll ask to take her photo as well before we leave my beloved stairwell. Like on this day, after she had refreshed her beautiful blonde locks and they tumbled down her back in glorious golden waves (Yea, I'm a bit obsessed). Kasey was rocking this gorgeous green brocade vintage number she had picked up at the U-district Redlight. I love how creative she was while putting this look together. I never would have thought to pair this piece with a denim vest and shearling boots but the look is bomb!

During our jaunt to Austin, Kasey picked up 5 incredibly gorgeous 50's style dresses and I mentioned that there would be photoshoots in our future. At the very least, there will be some outfit shots! I find myself regularly referring to Kasey's style for outfit inspiration and I'm looking forward to sharing some of Kasey's adorable style on the blog and having photos to reference for later.

I head out on a red eye tonight to spend the weekend with family in Florida! Not gonna lie, glad I have an excuse to continue rocking summer threads. Thanks for reading, Happy Wednesday!

A Ruckus, This One

IMG_2672

Today I took photos for Kara and Eric's Save the Dates and I wanted to share a couple of my favorites. We met after work, right at the end of the day. Their street is cute, so we just took a stroll up the block. We didn't even get 100 yards from their house. I don't have a whole lot of experience taking photos for couples, but Kara and Eric made it easy. Don't let these adorable photos fool you though, these two are total dorks and each one's quirks compliment the other's quite well. Kara and I have been friends since forever and nothing makes my heart happier than seeing how happy she is with Eric.

Their summer wedding makes me extra excited for the year ahead!!! Also, I am so pleased that we're all on the hill now! Weekly dinner dates with Kara when I'm home and getting to spend a bit more time with Eric has made the end of summer very sweet. I love you both! Happy Engagement!

Rhymes with Stallions

IMG_1935 IMG_1935

You guys may recognize these beautiful snaps from the Meta Ink shoot I did a little earlier this summer. You guys, let's get real for a minute. This mom is GORGEOUS. I can't believe she had this cute bebe 6 months ago! When Christina asked if I could snap some photos for her entire family, I jumped at the chance!

I've done a couple weddings as a favor for friends but have never been asked to do a family session. This first one was a very pleasant experience. This family was picture perfect and each of the kids had a great amount of energy. I loved that Christina had a ton of ideas for different poses and arrangements. It really helped keep our shoot going and we were able to get A LOT done in 45 minutes.

At this point in time, I don't charge for my photography. I take photos for fun and I think the pressure of producing quality images may be more stress than I want to bring to my favorite creative outlet. Although, I gladly accept gifts! (Thanks for the sbux card and flowers!) I'm taking save the dates for my dear friend Kara later this week and can't wait to share those with you. For now though, please enjoy my favorite snaps from this gorgeous family!

Fresh Face

I am still swooning over our endless summer themed shoot for Meta Ink Shop. If you've seen my photography on facebook, you'll know that I am responsible for 80% of Niky's facebook photos. She's sort of my favorite person to photograph. Not only because she's gorgeous, but because she's the biggest goober ever and we always have a lot of fun. She knows how to work it in front of the camera but she never takes it too seriously.

Niky and I lived together for a year and a half in what we dubbed, Sister House. She is probably the single most influential person on my style. I wear crops because of her, she cuts my jorts for me, and I wouldn't know about the next big thing if she wasn't there showing me her current insta feed. Having a younger sister is the best, she keeps me on point. I love you, Niky! So stoked for our fall adventures!

Meeting Ms. Massey

Mitch and I are in Eastern Washington this weekend, visiting wine country and Leavenworth, a Bavarian themed town. While we were here, I met this amazing girl, Charlotte Massey at her art tent in the park. I loved the style of her paintings and couldn't help but start a conversation with her. She was very warm and I couldn't believe she had just graduated from the local high school! Definitely wise beyond her years. Even more unbelievable, she has been painting for ONLY A YEAR. What?! I knew I had to purchase a print and wrestled a little before settling on "Omniscient Bliss," Charlotte's most complicated work to date. Although, I'm still thinking about "Stella" and will probably get her before summer is over! I love the playful detail of the big dipper freckled across her cheek.

It was a pleasure meeting you, Charlotte. Thank you for sharing a little of your story with me. Have the most amazing fall globe trotting! I can't wait to see how your travels influence your art and writing!

So Fly

Please meet my friend, Josh Henry. We went on an amazing cliff jumping adventure with friends this past weekend and I got the chance to snap some photos. To say I admire his style is such an understatement. He is just... so... COOL. I understand that some folks might be intimidated by his tats and his mega fly vibe but Josh is so sweet and soft spoken. Honestly, it's quite unexpected. I enjoyed the day with you, Josh! Say hi to your mama for me!

Vivacious Vicky: Young, Wild and Free

Vicky is the oldest of the cousin group and I am glad because our careers at the UW managed to overlap. I've really enjoyed watching Vicky cultivate her independence at the UW. Growing up in a tight knit family provides an invaluable support system, but it can sometimes be difficult to forge your own path when you have a constant safety net engulfing you. I've never seen anyone work so hard to make their own way. This summer, Vicky is working at Impinj,a startup that utilizes RFID technology in multiple sectors including retail and health care. She is focusing on UI. I can't wait to see where she decides to go next!

Vicky LOVES to have fun and I think her summer outfit expresses this best, quite literally really! I can't help it, crop top plus circle skirt is THE SILHOUETTE of the summer! Vicky and I want you to have an EPIC weekend! Happy Fourth, everyone!
