Adventure is out there!

If you only know me from this blog, you may think that my only interest in life is pretty clothing and pretty pictures. Let's be real though, it is more than likely that you found your way over here because I share the shit out of my blog via my facebook. If you've ever had your newsfeed blessed with one of my weekly (read: daily) photo dumps (15,000 and counting!), then you know I'm all over the place. Typically, those photo dumps are accompanied by a short, cheery description and some kim-trying-to-be-funny captions. Pictures are my favorite way to share, but they can only tell so much of the story and usually it is the powdered sugar coated version. What I'm trying to say with this intro is, I want Twenty Something Style to be about my twenties. And my twenties are spent on a lot more than putting on clothes. So get ready for all of it. It is happening!

At Microsoft, I am part of the Intern Social Coordinator (ISC) club. We are paired up and given a group of ~20 interns for the summer and a modest budget to show them all the glory of the PNW. So far, we've been to an indoor trampoline warehouse and on the Seattle Underground Tour. For our next event, we wanted to showcase what may be the best thing the PNW has to offer- it's natural beauty. This lush climate has fostered opportunity for all forms of outdoor activities and has encouraged PNW inhabitants to cultivate active lifestyles.

We took Team BestISC to the Northwest Trek Wildlife Park. My previous lead turned me on to the idea. It's one of his favorite ways to show his foreign exchange students the PNW. The main attractions at the park are a 1 hour long tram tour and several zip lining courses for various skill/risk levels. You can also take a walk through the beautiful forest and learn about the local animals and plants. Northwest Trek is located in Eatonville, WA- less than 1.5 hours away from Seattle.

We did the Adventure Course. It took about an hour to get through the entire course and included several zip lines and various obstacles. My favorite part was definitely zipping through the trees! The biggest bummer was that we had to go in a single file line so the wait to get started was a tad long, but we had great company to hang with. Once you made it up the rock wall, the adventure went pretty quickly. From what I understand of similar ziplining activities, Northwest Trek is incredibly high value for the cost. A similar course would certainly cost 2-3 times anywhere else. It made for a great day trip and I highly recommend this adventure if you're in the area. Make sure to make reservations for zip lining courses ahead of time.

Victoria Victrola: Lovely in Lace

My Seattle based cousins and I are trying to keep a tradition of a sleepover, crafts and photos to celebrate the end of each school term. We missed Spring but I think we more than made up for it with this one! We kicked off our weekend with a jaunt down to UW's Waterfront Activities Center to snap some cute photos showcasing each girl's summer style. I'll be sharing them this week on the blog!

First up on the blog is the incredibly lovely, Victoria. She is the outspoken one in the group. She is always ready with an opinion, whether it will sit well with you or not! It's the kind of real talk that is greatly appreciated. Victoria is the caretaker, leading an apartment full of six cousins, all attending the UW. She's a mechanical engineering student interning at Boeing this summer and I couldn't be more proud of her.

I love this lace number that Victoria picked out. The oversized dress shirt is well proportioned for her small frame. AND THAT HAIR! I'm in love.

Seafoam and Evergreen

My dear friend, Margeaux, over at Just the Regular Type just launched a new Etsy store with some of the prettiest jewelry I've ever seen! Whenever I wear her hand made delicacies, they remind me to enjoy the small things in life. Her designs are simple and sweet. Treat yourself or a bfferboo today and be sure to check out SeafoamANDEvergreen!

My favorite piece this season, the blue and seafoam bar bracelet is meant to be layered, but I wanted to show it off so I opted wear it alone along with the ever-popular assortment of gold rings to compliment the gold chain. Weekends are for classy crops and I've been waiting to wear these little daisies for a joyful occasion. Today I spent the evening snapping photos with my fashionably adorable cousins, who I will introduce on the blog over the next few days! Excited to share our shenanigans!

Quick and Casual: Sailboats and Brights

I knew today was going to involve a lot of running back and forth so I chose pants, which I don't wear often. I started being more adventurous with my style around Junior year of college after I picked up my first pair of nude platforms from Ross. Thank you, Mr. Carlos Santana! My style revolved around extra high heels and extra short skirts. My shoes have remained tall, but my hem has gotten a tad bit longer. However, as much as I live for dressing up, I've come to appreciate the ease and comfort of dressing down.

I'm obsessed with the sailboats on this cardigan! I am pretty sure my brighter than life chartreuse purse is radiating neon. Not gonna lie, it's a knock off Prada from Vietnam. Fakes purse shopping is maybe one of my favorite activities in SE Asia. I couldn't care less about the label on the purse, but I love the shape and color! When I shop for bags, I focus on designs I like and if they happen to have a posh label etched onto the front, so be it. What can you do? Live your life!

Pink Peonies

I had an unexpectedly AMAZING DAY on Tuesday. One of our remote team members was back in the office and my entire team had lunch together. We saw some coworkers trekking back to our building with flowers and discovered that our work was hosting a Pike Place Popup Market so we ventured over after our meal. They had an incredible assortment of fresh flowers, honey biscuits, nuts and cherries! I picked up six fluffy peonies for $10! They're filling my office with a wonderful scent. Tuesday really felt more like a weekend brunchventure with friends than a work day! Absolutely magical.

I also put together one of my very favorite work outfits to date! Usually I'll pair flats with a dress this short for work but these gold tipped fuchsia darlings were too perfect with my crop top.

Mint and Tribal

I love this outfit so much that I wore it on Saturday AND Sunday. I picked up the skirt on a whim without trying it on and I'm so glad I did! I love tribal print, but it's not quite my go-to style so I don't wear it often. However, this skirt had a pretty pastel palette which made it feel girly and flirty and everything Kim. I'm a huge fan of classy crop tops and I knew that this mint number would pair perfectly. The crop is made of cotton and the skirt is made of a breezy linen making it quite pleasant for spending time with friends on these warm Seattle afternoons.

Happy Summer Solstice!

Red Flowers and Purple Bows

My work wear runs the gamut from shameless yoga leggings to 5 inch platforms. Running recruiting events will keep me dressed down for most of the summer but when I can catch a break, I'll take advantage by glamming it up. I was feeling extra fabulous today so I decided to rock my birthday shoes. I used a sleeveless vest to keep the look a bit more casual for day. I imagine myself having somewhere exciting to go after work and leaving the vest behind to show off my favorite part of the dress, the mid-V in the back. Instead, I threw on sweats within 5 seconds of walking through my front door.

Seafoam and Seashells

I love Washington, but California holds a special place in my heart. It served as my family's exclusive vacation destination for 10 years in a row. It is the state I flew to twice a month for two school years to visit Mitch while he finished school. And it's home to the happiest place on earth, Disneyland! I was quite happy to return to the sunshine state for Caltech's Commencement. Mitch's brother, Emeka, my other favorite Nigerian, received his B.S. in computer science and will be on his way to Oracle at the end of August. Super proud of you, Starship! For our last day in Pasadena, I chose a loose fitting, short dress to beat the heat. I'm a huge fan of dressing for your shape but sometimes you just want to put a bag on and dude, that's okay! Mitch snapped these photos of me right before we left for LAX. For someone who doesn't really take photos, I was quite impressed. Happy to be home in the very cool PNW, but I will certainly miss the palm trees!
