Mitch and I wanted to give ourselves a bit of a head start so we left for Portland after work on Friday. We had a lovely evening resting at our unexpectedly awesome Airbnb and eating our way through the Nob Hill Neighborhood. Tranquil and peaceful are the perfect words to describe our Airbnb stay and it was just minutes away from on one of the coolest neighborhoods in Portland. We are also pretty big fans of Urbanspoon, an app that helps you discover restaurants near you complete with reviews and search filters. Absolutely perfect for finding noms in unfamiliar places! We've been craving Greek, so we opted to try Dorio, a Greek Cafe and Taverna. They had some traditional and non traditional offerings (i.e. Gyro burgers), although they were missing some staples that I typically expect at Greek/Mediterranean restaurants, such as Dolmas. It was all good in the hood though since they did have Spanakopita. Was it my favorite Spanakopita of all time? No. But it was a HUGE serving and I ate it all anyways! Mitch enjoyed his burger, although it was a bit small. On the Kitch scale of 1 - 10, we give it a solid 6.
Afterwards, we went for a walk up and down 23rd. I love this street, it reminds me of the ave in the u-district. We popped into the New Renaissance Bookshop for a couple minutes and poked around for fun. It was like Powell's Books, but for meta physical stuff! We had a nice conversation with one of the employees there. It's definitely worth a few minutes of your time if you're in the neighborhood and happen by.
Of course we needed to end the night with dessert. We TOTALLY were going to hit up our favorite, Salt and Straw, but the line was super unreasonable. We're talking a 45 minute wait for ice cream... even I have a limit. So we went for the gelato place right down the block, no wait at all! Alotto Gelato was super adorable and super delicious. The perfect way to end our first evening.
It's good that our Airbnb was so restful. We were up at 6 AM the next day to start our big drive down to California. Crater Lake is up next!

HAHA! Mitch's "GELATO GET IN MY BELLY" face may be my favorite Mitch face ever. And also, serious props to the fellow gelato lovers that cutely photobombed me. Great start to a great trip!
